COVID-19 Safety Plan - Summer 2021

  1. Captains to maintain all contact information for their players and retain their lineups in the event contract tracing is necessary in the event someone tests positive for COVID.
Player contact information is also available on the ESSA web site at:
2021 Player List (Excel format) (username/password required)
2021 Player List (HTML format) (username/password required)

  2. The following procedures form the COVID Protocol for our 2021 season:
    1. At the beginning of each game the Captains will check with players to see if they are experiencing any COVID related symptoms.
    2. No handshakes.
    3. Minimize team meetings.
    4. Players may use the dugout and the surrounding fenced areas as long as they maintain 2 m / 6 ft distance.
    5. As per the Canadian COVID website fully vaccinated players do not need to wear a mask when outdoors with a group of fully, vaccinated, partially or unvaccinated people.
    6. Ontario is still requiring masks indoors which applies to the washrooms at Dunton Athletic Fields.
    7. Captains are asked to "encourage" the wearing of masks on the sidelines / coaching / umpiring, especially for partially or unvaccinated players.
    8. Wipes and hand sanitizer will be provided and kept in each team's First Aid Kit.
    9. Players should be encouraged to wear batting gloves.
    10. There are no "spare" players who may be called up for one game, only full-time substitutes to replace players who withdraw from the Association.
    11. Each team supplies 2 "game" balls, one new and one used, which they use on defence and are set aside near home plate.
    12. The batting team supplies the catcher; the Captain will designate a "competent" player and the player will have the option of wearing a catcher's mask.
    13. The batting team will also provide a home plate umpire and one in the field.

Positive COVID Test Result

If someone does have a positive test, that team, and all of their opponents for the past 14 days need to self-isolate and should get tested, with the exception of asymptomatic double vaccinated individuals who should get tested but are not required to self-isolate. The Board of Directors will also immediately convene in the event a player tests positive to manage next steps per the protocol.
