PLAYOFF ROUND TIE-BREAKER FORMAT

                             (approved Aug 8, 2008)

The top four teams in the playoff round will proceed to the playoffs.

The first place team will play the fourth place team and the second place team will play the third place team.

The higher placed team shall be the home team.

In the event of ties for any of the four playoff positions, the following procedure will apply in determining the final placement of teams.

N.B. There will be no tie games in the playoff round.

If, after the playoff round:

1. Two teams are tied for first place. The team that won the head-to-head game shall be declared the first place team.

2. Three teams are tied for first place. If one team has a 2-0 advantage over the other two teams in the head-to-head games, it shall be declared the first place team. Second place will be determined on the basis of the head-to-head game between the other two teams during the playoffs. If all three teams have a 1-1 record against the other two teams (thereby eliminating the head-to-head criterion), first, second and third places will be determined on the basis of the fewest runs scored against each team among the three teams tied for the placement; that is, among the three games taking place between the three teams involved, the one with the fewest runs against will be awarded first place.  Second place will be awarded to the winner of the head-to-head game between those two teams.

3. Four teams are tied for first place. Each team will have played three games, one against each of the other three. A team with a 3-0 win/loss record in head-to head competition against the other three will be awarded first place. If two teams have 2-1 records against the other three teams, the team winning the head-to head between those two teams will be awarded first place and the other team second place.  Similarly, the third and fourth places will be awarded to the teams with 1-2 records on the basis of their head-to-head game between those two teams.

4. Two teams are tied for second or third place. The higher place will be awarded on the basis of the head-to-head game between those two teams.

5. More than two teams are tied for second, third, or fourth place. The first criterion will be head-to-head against each other in the playoffs. Where more than two teams have identical won/loss records in the playoffs against each other, e.g. 1-1, the placement shall be determined on the basis of fewest runs scored against in the games between the teams involved. See 2 above.

6.  In the event that there is still a tie among two or more teams still contending for a playoff position, the criterion of ‘fewest runs scored against' shall be extended to the fewest runs scored against all teams contending for one of the final playoff positions.
