"Festering Wounds" / "Gang Green" Softball Team

In the middle seventies, a group of Chemistry graduate students, post-docs, staff and professors started playing softball at U/Toronto. An informal league was started, with teams from Chemistry, Zoology, Computer Science and Medieval Studies.

As the league grew, it was taken over by the Athetics Center, and other Chemistry teams were formed as more players wanted to play ("Top Guns", "Toxic Dump", "Hit Men"). The "Festering Wounds" team was put together with the aim of winning SAC, then Athetics Center, co-ed and open tournaments, and the summer softball championship, which we finally managed to do in 1997.

After 1997 the "Festering Wounds" name was retired, and the team renamed "Gang Green". It is now populated with Chemistry ex-patriots (after the departmental purge in the 1990's), pick-ups from other departments, and friends.
