Rules Addenda ------------- This is probably a bit late (and most of us have this memorized by now) but here are a few reminders: All playoff games start at 5:15. There is a 10 minute grace period at which point a team unable or unwilling to start is now deemed "late". Translation: if 7 complete innings are played by 6:30, there is no problem; however, if less than 7 innings are played then the late team defaults the game, regardless of the score. You must have a minimum of 7 players to start the game. You may add late players as they arrive, (without penalty) to the bottom of your line-up if: - they arrive prior to the start of the 4th inning (start of the 4th inning is when the first pitch is thrown for the top half of the inning); - the male/female ratio for fielding and batting is maintained. The opposition must be informed before the game begins of your intention to add late players. The opposition must be informed upon arrival and prior to a late player taking the field or batting. Late players may not interrupt a game in progress but must wait for a suitable break in play to take the field. If you choose instead to put a late player in the middle of your line-up, it will be an automatic "out" for that spot in the order, until the late player arrives. As in prior years, the higher ranked team will be the home team (they may choose to be visitors if they wish). Rule Changes Adopted at the May 15, 2003 Captain's Meeting ---------------------------------------------------------- * Balls - League regulation ball will be the Worth Gold, 44COR. Each team will supply one regulation game ball per game during elimination round play. (League to supply 2 balls per team in July, plus 2 extra per "double bye" teams, so no excuses ...) * Pinch-running - Pinch-runners for injured players to be the last player called out of the same gender as the runner for whom the substitution will be made. Unlimited number of pinch-runners may be substituted once the original runner reaches first base. 2 pinch-runners per game may start from behind home plate (i.e. behind the catcher, touching the back screen). * Sliding - No sliding across the safety line at home, or into the safety bag at first base when advancing to first on a batted ball. Sliding back into first base (e.g. when attempting to advance on a caught ball) is permitted, as is sliding into secnd and third bases. * Basepaths - 55-foot basepaths, per League rules, to be marked for clarity by PeterL and RonN over the course of the first part of the season (double-orange slash on the screen). Putting a 55' hunk o' twine in your equipment bag is also an option. * Encroachment - NB 10-foot applies to all players. * Ground Rules - consistent ground rules for trees and ravines at Dovercourt and Trinity-Bellwoods to be developed and circulated.
