Expanded Senior Slo-Pitch Association Code Of Conduct

The goals of the Expanded Senior Slo-Pitch Association are to have fun, get some exercise and socialize while (and after) playing softball. Anyone can play. Recognize that there are players of different skill levels, who are trying their best to contribute to the team.

All games should be played with good sportsmanship, fairness, integrity, and mutual respect. Maintain and enhance the dignity and self-esteem of every one by demonstrating respect to individuals regardless of athletic ability, gender, ethnic or racial origin, sexual orientation, age, religious belief, political belief, disability or economic status. Although competition may become intense, we expect our participants to maintain good sportsmanship up to and after the final out, win or lose.

Respect the game, play fairly, and follow all rules and policies. Accept the decisions of the umpires officials with good grace.

Be responsible for the sportsmanship of all teammates and assist in maintaining a respectful environment for all participants. Be courteous to opposing teams and officials, and treat all players, spectators, and officials with respect.

Help to maintain and keep all equipment and conditions at the facility/park in good condition.

Refrain from the use of abusive language or profanity. Do not engage in any form of verbal aggression including: verbal threats of violence or abuse aimed at any participant, official, or spectator. Do not engage in any physical altercation including: initiate a fight, scuffle, or heated exchange with any individual (including but not limited to: pushing, shoving, kicking, etc).

Sports are filled with judgment calls and, as a result, disputes between players, opponents, spectators, and umpires may occur from time to time. However, it is important that participants respect and handle all disputes that may occur in a civilized manner. If discussion about a call or rule is required, the team captains or his/her designates is the only ones who should be talking with the umpire(s).

Captains: please stress to your players that certain BEHAVIOUR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

BEHAVIOUR THAT WARRANTS DISCIPLINE

• Vicious throwing of equipment, bats, gloves, helmets.
• Foul and/or obscene language directed to officials or players.
• Bumping, shoving or striking players or officials.
• Kicking dust on the plate or the official's shoes.
• Mocking or other obvious attempts to belittle the officials.
• Persistent attempts to annoy or intimidate a player or official.

CONSEQUENCES

A repeat offender must meet with the Fairness Committee and show just cause why he/she should not be suspended.
